WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies and other similar technologies such as local shared objects, flash cookies or pixels are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, as well as to offer a correct functioning of the site.

According to the EU directive, cookies that require informed by the user consent are cookies analytics and advertising and affiliation, being exempt the technical and necessary for the operation of the website or the provision of services expressly requested by the user.
WHAT KIND OF COOKIES ARE THERE?
About the types of cookies, there are five major groups:
Analytical cookies: collect information on the use made of the website.
Social cookies: are those necessary for external social networks.
Affiliate cookies: they allow you to track visits from other websites, with which the website establishes an affiliation contract (affiliation companies).
Advertising and behavioral cookies: collect information about the preferences and personal choices of the user (retargeting).
Technical and functional cookies: they are strictly necessary for the use of the website and for the provision of the contracted service.

PHPSESSID: technical and strictly necessary cookie that contains the identifier of the session. It is deleted when the browser is closed.
_lang: technical and strictly necessary cookie that contains the language of the session. It is deleted when the browser is closed.
Data updated every 12 minutes. This is the result of an automatic process. As such, the following plots might be based on wrong data, such as magnetically polluted data, spikes, or data resulting from temporal malfunction of the acquisition system.
* On the top we show the tri-hourly magnetic activity index K, which is calculated from the variations of the horizontal magnetic field components Y (East) and X (North), which are shown below in blue. From these records we obtain the derivatives dY/dt and dX/dt (in black) and from them, assuming a homogeneous ground conductivity of 0.001 S/m, the North (Ex) and East (Ey) electric field components respectively (in red), which generate geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) in certain technological systems, such as high voltage power transmission grids. In each network transformer, the induced current is proportional to these Ex and Ey, according to constants that depend on the topology of the grid and on both the lines and transformer resistances. In the bottom graph (in purple) we show the predicted GIC in a selected transformer of the Spanish 400 kV grid. The model was made by Ebro Observatory in collaboration with Red Eléctrica de España (more info).
